Description
I got early one morning while camping in this area and went to Redfish Lake to get the sunrise, but was very disappointed with the clouds and no colors so I started to return to camp and stopped at Little Redfish lake and was treated to this beautiful sunrise.
Little Redfish Lake is a name given to two different alpine lakes in central Idaho, both in the Sawtooth National Recreation Area and Custer County. This article refers to the lake on Redfish Lake Creek downstream of Redfish Lake and south of Stanley.
Little Redfish Lake is a picturesque mountain lake on the northeast edge of the Sawtooth mountain range in central Idaho, five miles south of Stanley in and less than mile from State Highway 75.
Its surface elevation is 6,489 feet (1,978 m) above sea level, and is about a mile (1.6 km) downstream from the significantly larger Redfish Lake (6,547 feet (1,996 m)). Both were named for the red-scaled sockeye salmon that returned every year to spawn via the Salmon River. The lakes flow into the river via Redfish Lake Creek.
Stanley is a city in Custer County, Idaho, United States. The population was 63 at the 2010 census; down from 100 in 2000. The center of population of Idaho in 2000 was located in Stanley.
Stanley, Idaho is a true Rocky Mountain town located in the pristine wilderness of central Idaho. Gateway to the Sawtooth Mountains, Frank Church Wilderness, and the famous Salmon River of No Return, Stanley is a recreation mecca for biking, hiking, rafting, fishing, horseback trail rides, hunting, camping, skiing, snowmobiling, exploring and more.
This picturesque community, squeezed between the Salmon River of No Return and the Sawtooth Mountains, is often referred to as the American Alps. The towering Sawtooth Mountains arguably create the most impressive skyline in the west.
