Description
The upper falls are 109 feet (33 m) high. The brink of the upper falls marks the junction between a hard rhyolite lava flow and weaker glassy lava that has been more heavily eroded.
The Upper Yellowstone Falls are in Yellowstone National Park, near Canyon Village. This is a very impressive waterfall, even if it is not as impressive as the nearby Lower Falls.
The best views of the Falls are from the south side of the canyon, at the Uncle Tom's Trail parking area. From here you can walk upstream along the rim of the gorge for several nice views of the falls. There was a trail down into the gorge near the base of the falls, but it was closed due to washouts when I was there.
