Artist's Description

The first cutting is only a few weeks behind most of the years.

Idaho ranks fourth nationally for production of alfalfa hay. Production has increased in recent years to meet the demand of Idaho's burgeoning dairy industry. Statewide, growers harvested 1 million acres in 2011 (the latest year in which statistics are available). The average yield was 4.3 tons per acre.
