Description
A great view of Mount Grinnell while hiking along the Redrock Fall trail from the Many Glacier area.
Mount Grinnell is a peak located in the heart of Glacier National Park in the U.S. state of Montana near Mount Gould and Mount Wilbur. It is named after George Bird Grinnell. From the Many Glacier Hotel on Swiftcurrent Lake the "false peak" of Grinnell Point can be seen.
The hike to Redrock Falls begins from the Swiftcurrent Pass Trailhead in Many Glacier. The trailhead is located at the far end of the parking area for the Swiftcurrent Motor Inn at the end of Many Glacier Road.
Roughly one-third of a mile from the normally crowded parking lot youll reach a side trail that leads to the first destination on this hike, Fishercap Lake. Its a very short walk to the lake, less than a hundred yards. Although some might bypass this gem, its well worth the short side trip, as the views of the lake and the surrounding mountains are quite stunning. Theres a very nice beach area that makes for a great picnic spot, or even a nice short hike to take small kids. Fishercap Lake is also a good place to spot a moose, especially in the mornings and early evenings.
At 1.7 miles youll reach Redrock Lake, the second destination on this hike. The views from the lake are simply beautiful. Youll have commanding views of 8851-foot Mt. Grinnell and Swiftcurrent Glacier towards the southwest. Almost directly west of you is 8436-foot Switftcurrent Mountain. If you look closely at the very top of the mountain you may be able to spot the fire tower.

F/L This is an outstanding landscape with pleasing diagonal lines in the composition. The nice sharp details with the vivid colors help to make this a stunning image. The blue in the sky is delightful. I like how the mountains rise up to frame the image.

Thanks so much for the great comment. I had a bad case of the 24 hour flu when I took this one. It was a long hike out to the car.
