Wild iris grows in most of the climates of the United States. The only climates that wild iris will not grow, are the hot deserts, and the wetlands on the southern coast of Florida. Wild iris looks beautiful in their natural habitat of woodlands and along streams. The colorful blooms are present during most of the late spring and early summer.
Wild iris is one of the most beautiful wild flowers. The tall, slender stalks and brightly colored blooms rise above their surroundings. While they prefer moist, well-drained soil, some wild iris can survive short periods of sever drought. The only problem with this is that the flowers do not bloom as well without a good deal of moisture.
The most familiar wild iris is the blue flag. This wild iris is native to deciduous woodlands, and has thick, blade-like foliage. I am a retired teacher, coach, and athletic director. While my wife, Judy, and I were teaching she had a photo studio, and I had a dark room where I did black and white and color. Some were for the studio while most of it was just a hobby. When we retired in 2000, we sold our house in Eastern Washington and moved onto our boat, Last Class, and our motorhome.
