Auke Bay is a community located in the borough of Juneau, Alaska that contains Auke Bay Harbor, Auke Lake, the University of Alaska Southeast, a branch office of NOAA, an elementary school, a church, a post office, a bar, a coffee shop, a waffle house, a Thai restaurant, and one convenience store. The view of the Mendenhall Glacier behind Auke Bay and Mt. McGinnis towering over Auke Lake are some of the most popular photo opportunities in Juneau. The ferry terminal of the Alaska Marine Highway system is also located further out the road in Auke Bay at about 14 mile.
When approaching Juneau, Alaska's capital city, look starboard and spot the landmark ruins of the A.J. (Alaska-Juneau) Gold Mine on the side of the mountain. As you travel up Gastineau Channel towards Juneau, you will see the Juneau-Douglas bridge (66.4 feet on a 0.0 tide), a graph at the base of the bridge measures the current height. About Robert Bales
I am a retired teacher, coach, and athletic director. While my wife, Judy, and I were teaching she had a photo studio, and I had a dark room where I did black and white and color. Some were for the studio while most of it was just a hobby. When we retired in 2000, we sold our house in Eastern Washington and moved onto our boat, Last Class, and our motorhome. We sold Last Class a few years ago and bought a small house in Yuma, Arizona and bought another one in Emmett Idaho. Now we spend the summers in Emmett and the winters in Yuma. Over our 50 years of marriage, we have always had an interest in photography and both of us enjoy taking the photos for this site.
