Artist's Description
Originally called "Emmettville," it was primarily a post office named after Emmett Cahalan, the son of Tom Cahalan, an early settler of the area. The post office was later moved but retained the name. A few years later the "ville" was dropped and the post office and town became simply Emmett. In 1883 James Wardwell had the town platted, and in 1900 the town was incorporated as Emmett. Later, in March 1902, the Idaho Northern railroad came to the valley. (Wikipedia )
Emmett, a city of about 6,500, lies along the southern banks of the Payette River in west-central Idaho. Gold discoveries in the nearby Boise Basin brought miners and other settlers to the area, which was the site of a ferry crossing in the 1860s. Today, Emmett sits at the heart of the agriculturally rich Treasure Valley, center of Idahos cherry-growing business. Familiarity with Emmetts landmarks will help you make the most of your visit to the area. (USA Today)
About Robert Bales
I am a retired teacher, coach, and athletic director. While my wife, Judy, and I were teaching she had a photo studio, and I had a dark room where I did black and white and color. Some were for the studio while most of it was just a hobby. When we retired in 2000, we sold our house in Eastern Washington and moved onto our boat, Last Class, and our motorhome. We sold Last Class a few years ago and bought a small house in Yuma, Arizona and bought another one in Emmett Idaho. Now we spend the summers in Emmett and the winters in Yuma. Over our 50 years of marriage, we have always had an interest in photography and both of us enjoy taking the photos for this site. I have always used Cannon cameras and now I am using the 7D for most of the...
