Description
Cut from the coastal mountains by glaciers millions of years ago, the fjords of Canada's Inside Passage have provided cruise guests with spectacular coastal rainforests, beaches, waterfalls and mountains for over a century. Since the first passenger steamers of the Yukon gold rush in the 1890's revealed the beauty of the BC coast, cruise guests have marveled at the scale and magnificence of the landscape, north from Vancouver through Canada to Southeast Alaska, passages where mountains literally emerge from ocean so close as if within reach. Over 40,000 kms of rugged coastline lie in Canada's Inside Passage, joining Alaska's 24,000 kms of inside waters, linking the cities of Victoria, Vancouver, Nanaimo and Prince Rupert en route. The Inside Passage provides safe transit as a sheltered West Coast waterway, providing not only the remote wilderness Alaska cruise guests have come to expect, but also the unexpected; fishing trawlers laden with their catch heading to harbour, historic lighthouses on rocky isolated shores, coastal First Nations long houses fronted with proud totems and all manner of marine life, from orca whales and porpoises to some of the densest populations of bald eagles in the world.
