Description
The Owyhee Dam which is in Eastern Oregon has an inverted bell spillway which is also called The Glory Hole. The “Ring Gate” or “Glory Hole” at the Owyhee Reservoir in southeastern Oregon. The Owyhee Irrigation District shared video of the water rushing out of the reservoir on their Facebook page. The Owyhee Reservoir is located near the Oregon-Idaho state line just southwest of Parma.
A bell-mouth spillway is designed like an inverted bell where water can enter around the entire perimeter. These uncontrolled spillways are also called morning glory, (after the flower) or glory hole spillways. In areas where the surface of the reservoir may freeze, this type of spillway is normally fitted with ice-breaking arrangements to prevent the spillway from becoming ice-bound.
