Hi Robert--What? Not a bunch of beachfront properties? It is refreshing to see something not run amuck by our fellow humans, I did read your description and see that humans did give it a try with the fish to no avail. Nice. I'd love this on my wall. FAV

Artist's Description

Twin Lakes are a pair of lake located along the Grand Loop Road south of Mammoth Hot Springs. The lakes were originally given their name in 1879 by superintendent Philetus W. Norris for their proximity and similar mirrored appearance to one another.
North Twin Lake's water comes from spring and runoff from nearby geyser activity. It is very shallow and cannot support a fish population. Despite this, the lake was stocked with whitefish in 1889, and grayling in the 1934-1935 time period. In both cases, the lack of suitable spawning habitat led to the demise of the transplanted fish.
South Twin Lake's water also comes from springs and geyser activity. And while it is somewhat deeper, it also lacks inlet and outlet channels and thus suitable spawning habitat to allow for fish reproduction. South was also stocked with whitefish in 1889, as well as 200 rainbow trout in 1933. Between 1934 and 1956, some 450,000 grayling were introduced to the lake. By the mid 1970s, the lake was once ag...

About Robert Bales

Robert Bales

I am a retired teacher, coach, and athletic director. While my wife, Judy, and I were teaching she had a photo studio, and I had a dark room where I did black and white and color. Some were for the studio while most of it was just a hobby. When we retired in 2000, we sold our house in Eastern Washington and moved onto our boat, Last Class, and our motorhome. We sold Last Class a few years ago and bought a small house in Yuma, Arizona and bought another one in Emmett Idaho. Now we spend the summers in Emmett and the winters in Yuma. Over our 50 years of marriage, we have always had an interest in photography and both of us enjoy taking the photos for this site. I have always used Cannon cameras and now I am using the 7D for most of the...
